Devenish Island, from the Gaelic Daimhinis, meaning "ox island" on Lower Lake Erne, is the site of the 6th Century monastery founded by Saint Molaise. A round tower was built in the 9th Century to serve as  lookout for marauding Vikings but later used as a bell tower for the Augustinian monastery. This center piece was created in 1992, its design incorporating many elements of this very historic site.
